কোলকাতার ঐতিহ্য—ভিক্টোরিয়া |

 ইংরেজরা কোলকাতার বুকে ২০০ বছর রাজত্বকালে কত না স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামী দের ওপর অত্যাচার করেছে। কত প্রাণ বলিদান গেছে এ রা কোলকাতার বুকে ২০০ বছর রাজত্বকালে কত না স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামী দের ওপর অত্যাচার করেছে। কত প্রাণ বলিদান গেছে এই ইংরেজ শাসকদের জন্যে। কিন্তু এটাও ঠিক যে এই ইংরেজরা আমাদের শহরের বুকে এমন সব গির্জা বা স্মৃতি শৈল স্থাপন করেছেন যেগুলো এখনো সেই একই সম্মান নিয়ে মাথা উঁচু করে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে। তাদের এত বছরেও সেই জৌলুস কিছুটা ঘাটতি হলেও তারা কিন্তু তাদের ঐতিহ্য বজায় রাখতে সক্ষম হয়েছে।

ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়াল হলো এমন এক অতীব সুন্দর নিদর্শন যা বার বার দর্শন করলেও মন ভরে না। সারা বছর বাঙালী সহ সারা বিশ্বেরকোটি কোটি পর্যটকেরা আসেন এই শৈল স্মৃতি দেখতে। বিশেষত লণ্ডনে র প্রচুর পর্যটকরা ভিড় জমায় ভিক্টোরিয়া র সংগ্ৰহ শালা দেখতে কারণ এখানের সংগ্ৰহ শালা য় এমন সব দুষ্প্রাপ্য জিনিস রাখা আছে যেটা লণ্ডনে র সংগ্ৰহ শালা য় ও নেই। তার মধ্যে একটি হলো রাণী ভিক্টোরিয়ার ব্যবহার করা পিয়ানো যেটা তাঁর বর প্রিন্স এলবার্ট তাঁকে উপহার দিয়েছিলেন। সেটা একমাত্র কোলকাতার ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়াল রাখা আছে। এই ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালে প্রবেশ করলেই সামনে ডান দিকে দেখা যাবে রাজা জর্জ সিক্স এবং বাঁ দিকে মাদার মেরীর মূর্তি। নাক বরাবর গেলে পড়বে বিশাল সেন্ট্রাল হল যেখানে রয়েছে সাদা পাথর বা হোয়াইট স্টোনে নির্মিত রাণী ভিক্টোরিয়ার মূর্তি। তার তলায় রয়েছে দুটো তারিখ যেটা তার রাজত্বকাল বোঝাচ্ছে। উনি ১৮০৭-১৯০১ সাল অবধি রাজত্ব করেছিলেন। এই রাণীর রাজত্বকালে র স্মৃতির উদ্দেশ্যে এই স্মৃতি শৈল তৈরী করা হয়েছে। ১৯০১ সালের জানুয়ারি মাসে রাণীর মৃত্যু হয়। ১৯০৬ সালে এই ভিক্টোরিয়া র তৈরী করা শুরু হয়। জর্জ সিক্স প্রথম ভিত তা স্থাপন করেন এবং উলিয়মস এডিসন নামক একজন ইংরেজ যিনি তাজ মহলের বড় ই ভক্ত ছিলেন তিনি সেই তাজ মহলের আদলে তৈরী করলেন ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের মডেলটি যেটি হিন্দু, মুসলিম এবং ইউরোপিয়ান আর্টের কিছু বৈশিষ্ট্যের সংমিশ্রণ হিসেবে তৈরী করা হয়। এই মডেলটি ভিক্টোরিয়া র ভেতরে সযত্নে সংরক্ষিত আছে। ১৯২১ সালে এটি সাধারণ মানুষের জন্যে খুলে দেওয়া হয়।

ভিক্টোরিয়া র ভেতরে ঢুকলেই প্রথম ডান হাতে পড়বে রোয়াল্ড গ্যালারি। যেখানে রয়েছে বিশাল বিশাল তৈলচিত্র যেগুলো এত নিখুতভাবে আঁকা হয়েছে যে এখনকার দিনে বড় বড় শিল্পীদের ও আঁকতে কঠিন লাগবে। যতগুলো তৈলচিত্র ওখানে সুরক্ষিত আছে সব গুলোই প্রাকৃতিক রঙ দিয়ে করা কারণ তখনকার দিনে কৃত্রিম রঙ ছিল ই না। এগুলো সব থমাস ও উইলিয়াম ডেনিয়াল নামক দুই ইংরেজদের তৈরী। রয়াল গ্যালারি র ঠিক উল্টোদিকে রয়েছে চিত্র গ্যালারি যেখানে তৈলচিত্রের সাথে সাথে দেখতে পাওয়া যায় কিছু জলরঙের চিত্র। গগনেন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও অবনিন্দ্র নাথ ঠাকুরের তৈরী কিছু জলরঙের চিত্রচিত্র যেগুলো আপনাকে মুগ্ধ করবে। এছাড়াও তখনকার দিনের তিনজন গভর্নর জেনারেলের মূর্তি ও দেখতে পাওয়া যায় এই গ্যালারি তে। মার্কস হেস্টিংস, মার্কস ডালহৌসি ও মার্কস ওলেসলি যাদের নামে কোলকাতায় রাস্তা আছে। এই দুটি গ্যালারির সাথে সাথে রয়েছে আরো দুটো গ্যালারি নাম কোলকাতা গ্যালারি ও দরবার হল যেগুলো সেন্ট্রাল হল পেরোলেই চোখে পড়বে। প্রথম বাঁ দিকে আছে দরবার হল যেখানে রাখা আছে ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের মডেলটি। আর আছে মোঘল সম্রাট সাহ আলমের কিছু তৈলচিত্র, আউদের নবাব সুজাউদ্দৌলা র কিছু তৈলচিত্র, দিল্লির জুমা মসজিদ, সুলতানগঞ্জের ফকির রকের চিত্র, বাংলা, বিহার, উড়িষ্যার তথা নাজিবের নবাব যেই সিংহাসনে বসতেন সেটিও সযত্নে রাখা আছে এই দরবার হলে। সত্যিই, বাংলা ও ভারতের ইতিহাসের কত কি নিদর্শন সংরক্ষিত আছে এই স্মৃতি শৈলের অন্দরে সেটা না দেখলে বোঝানো মুশকিল। এই সংগ্ৰহ শালা সত্যি দেখার মত। দরবার হলের ঠিক উল্টোদিকে হলো কোলকাতা গ্যালারি যেখানে রয়েছে বাংলার সব বিখ্যাত মানুষের ছবি, তাদের নিজেদের হাতে লেখা অনেক তথ্য, তাদের জীবন, রয়েছে বাংলা প্রথম হোমিওপ্যাথি ডাক্তারের মূর্তি, ডাক্তার রাজেন্দ্রলাল দত্তযাঁকে কোলকাতার ফাদার ওফ হোমিওপ্যাথি ও বলা হয়ে থাকে। তাছাড়াও রয়েছে হাতির দাঁতের তৈরি চেয়ার যেটি মীর জাফারের স্ত্রী মুন্নী বেগম উপহার দিয়েছিলেন হেস্টিংসের স্ত্রীকে। রয়েছে ১৮৯১ সালের কাঁথা যেটার ওপর সুতোর কাজ এত নিঁখুত যে এখনকার দিনে মেশিনে করলেও এত ভাল করে করতে পারবে না। এছাড়াও আছে সত্যেন্দ্র প্রসন্ন সিনহার পরিহিত কোট যার মধ্যে রয়েছে সোনার অসম্ভব সুন্দর কাজ। এই সংগ্ৰহ শালা দেখতে দেখতে সারাদিন কাটানো যায়।

ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের সেন্ট্রাল হলে রাণীর মূর্তি তো আছেই তার সাথে ওপরে তাকালে দেখতে পাবেন অনেক ছবি। রাণীর শৈশব কাল, তাঁর সাথে প্রিন্স এলবার্টের বিবাহ, রাজকীয় পরিবারের জীবনযাপন, এডওয়ার্ড সিক্স এবং প্রিন্সেস আলেকজান্ডারের বিবাহ এসবের ছবিতে বলা আছে। ভিক্টোরিয়ার সংগ্ৰহশালায় যেসব তৈলচিত্র টাঙানো আছে সেগুলো সব ই ১৭৭০ থেকে ১৮৩৫ এর মধ্যে তৈরী হয়েছে। ভু দৃশ্য ও শহরের দৃশ্যের যে চিত্র গুলো আছে ওগুলো সরকার উলিয়াম ও থমাস ডেনিয়েলের তৈরী। প্রতি কৃতি, পোট্রেট এবং ঐতিহাসিক দৃশ্যে র যে চিত্র গুলো সব টিটি কেটেল নামক এক ইংরেজের তৈরী। এই শৈল স্মৃতি র বাইরে যে সবুজে ঘেরা বাগান আছে সেটা প্রায় ৬৪ একর জমির ওপর করা হয়েছে। ২১টি মালি এই বাগানগুলোর পরিচর্যা করে। রিডেলসল ও ডেভিড নামক দুই ইংরেজ এই বা বাগানগুলোর নকসা করেছেন। এই বাগানের চারিধারে কিছু মূর্তি দেখতে পাওয়া যাবে যেগুলো হল চার্লস কর্ন ওয়ালিস, জেমস ব্রাউন রামসে, আর্থার ওয়েলেসলি র।

ভিক্টোরিয়া র ভেতরে ঢুকলেই প্রথম ডান হাতে পড়বে রোয়াল্ড গ্যালারি। যেখানে রয়েছে বিশাল বিশাল তৈলচিত্র যেগুলো এত নিখুতভাবে আঁকা হয়েছে যে এখনকার দিনে বড় বড় শিল্পীদের ও আঁকতে কঠিন লাগবে। যতগুলো তৈলচিত্র ওখানে সুরক্ষিত আছে সব গুলোই প্রাকৃতিক রঙ দিয়ে করা কারণ তখনকার দিনে কৃত্রিম রঙ ছিল ই না। এগুলো সব থমাস ও উইলিয়াম ডেনিয়াল নামক দুই ইংরেজদের তৈরী। রয়াল গ্যালারি র ঠিক উল্টোদিকে রয়েছে চিত্র গ্যালারি যেখানে তৈলচিত্রের সাথে সাথে দেখতে পাওয়া যায় কিছু জলরঙের চিত্র। গগনেন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও অবনিন্দ্র নাথ ঠাকুরের তৈরী কিছু জলরঙের চিত্রচিত্র যেগুলো আপনাকে মুগ্ধ করবে। এছাড়াও তখনকার দিনের তিনজন গভর্নর জেনারেলের মূর্তি ও দেখতে পাওয়া যায় এই গ্যালারি তে। মার্কস হেস্টিংস, মার্কস ডালহৌসি ও মার্কস ওলেসলি যাদের নামে কোলকাতায় রাস্তা আছে। এই দুটি গ্যালারির সাথে সাথে রয়েছে আরো দুটো গ্যালারি নাম কোলকাতা গ্যালারি ও দরবার হল যেগুলো সেন্ট্রাল হল পেরোলেই চোখে পড়বে। প্রথম বাঁ দিকে আছে দরবার হল যেখানে রাখা আছে ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের মডেলটি। আর আছে মোঘল সম্রাট সাহ আলমের কিছু তৈলচিত্র, আউদের নবাব সুজাউদ্দৌলা র কিছু তৈলচিত্র, দিল্লির জুমা মসজিদ, সুলতানগঞ্জের ফকির রকের চিত্র, বাংলা, বিহার, উড়িষ্যার তথা নাজিবের নবাব যেই সিংহাসনে বসতেন সেটিও সযত্নে রাখা আছে এই দরবার হলে। সত্যিই, বাংলা ও ভারতের ইতিহাসের কত কি নিদর্শন সংরক্ষিত আছে এই স্মৃতি শৈলের অন্দরে সেটা না দেখলে বোঝানো মুশকিল। এই সংগ্ৰহ শালা সত্যি দেখার মত। দরবার হলের ঠিক উল্টোদিকে হলো কোলকাতা গ্যালারি যেখানে রয়েছে বাংলার সব বিখ্যাত মানুষের ছবি, তাদের নিজেদের হাতে লেখা অনেক তথ্য, তাদের জীবন, রয়েছে বাংলা প্রথম হোমিওপ্যাথি ডাক্তারের মূর্তি, ডাক্তার রাজেন্দ্রলাল দত্ত যাঁকে কোলকাতার ফাদার ওফ হোমিওপ্যাথি ও বলা হয়ে থাকে। তাছাড়াও রয়েছে হাতির দাঁতের তৈরি চেয়ার যেটি মীর জাফারের স্ত্রী মুন্নী বেগম উপহার দিয়েছিলেন হেস্টিংসের স্ত্রীকে। রয়েছে ১৮৯১ সালের কাঁথা যেটার ওপর সুতোর কাজ এত নিঁখুত যে এখনকার দিনে মেশিনে করলেও এত ভাল করে করতে পারবে না। এছাড়াও আছে সত্যেন্দ্র প্রসন্ন সিনহার পরিহিত কোট যার মধ্যে রয়েছে সোনার অসম্ভব সুন্দর কাজ। এই সংগ্ৰহ শালা দেখতে দেখতে সারাদিন কাটানো যায়।

ভিক্টোরিয়া মেমোরিয়ালের সেন্ট্রাল হলে রাণীর মূর্তি তো আছেই তার সাথে ওপরে তাকালে দেখতে পাবেন অনেক ছবি। রাণীর শৈশব কাল, তাঁর সাথে প্রিন্স এলবার্টের বিবাহ, রাজকীয় পরিবারের জীবনযাপন, এডওয়ার্ড সিক্স এবং প্রিন্সেস আলেকজান্ডারের বিবাহ এসবের ছবিতে বলা আছে। ভিক্টোরিয়ার সংগ্ৰহশালায় যেসব তৈলচিত্র টাঙানো আছে সেগুলো সব ই ১৭৭০ থেকে ১৮৩৫ এর মধ্যে তৈরী হয়েছে। ভু দৃশ্য ও শহরের দৃশ্যের যে চিত্র গুলো আছে ওগুলো সরকার উলিয়াম ও থমাস ডেনিয়েলের তৈরী। প্রতি কৃতি, পোট্রেট এবং ঐতিহাসিক দৃশ্যে র যে চিত্র গুলো সব টিটি কেটেল নামক এক ইংরেজের তৈরী। এই শৈল স্মৃতি র বাইরে যে সবুজে ঘেরা বাগান আছে সেটা প্রায় ৬৪ একর জমির ওপর করা হয়েছে। ২১টি মালি এই বাগানগুলোর পরিচর্যা করে। রিডেলসল ও ডেভিড নামক দুই ইংরেজ এই বা বাগানগুলোর নকসা করেছেন। এই বাগানের চারিধারে কিছু মূর্তি দেখতে পাওয়া যাবে যেগুলো হল চার্লস কর্ন ওয়ালিস, জেমস ব্রাউন রামসে, আর্থার ওয়েলেসলি র।

ভিক্টোরিয়া র বাইরে টাও যেমন সুন্দর ভেতরের সংগ্ৰহ শালা ততধিক আকর্ষণীয়। তাই আমাদের সবার ই দ্বায়িত্ব এই স্মৃতি শৈলকে সারাজীবন এভাবেই সুন্দরভাবে কোলকাতার ঐতিহ্য হিসেবে ধরে রাখতে।

Khirai---The Valley of Flowers

West Bengal is a state full of diversity,caste creed and different culture.There are snow capped peaks of Himalayas in the northern side with coastal regions in the South and plateaus,gangetic deltas intervening in between.There are so many renouned tourist spots on one side and there there are also many places yet to be explored.

About Khirai-This year 2020,on the day of Saraswati Pujo I went to explore a place which now a days become a popular tourist place.The place is known as Khirai where you can see flower garden spreading in miles.Its also known as Valley of Flowers.First when I got to know the name I thought how in the world the Valley of Flowers came to West Bengal?Because that is the famous trekking place in Uttarakhand.But when I reached there I was spell bound to see colourful and vibrant flowers on both side of Kangsabati River.Its totally a different feeling to explore this beautiful place.

Khirai is a small village in West Bengal just near to Panskura in East Midnapore.Its onl;y 90  kms from Kolkata.I was planning to visit here from last 1 year but couln't able to visit due to some reasons.So in 2020,I decided to go there.I chose Saraswati pujo as I guessed the place would not be so crowded due to household pujo .

I also knew that no one would accompany me due to festive day so I with my own company boarded Hwh-Midnapore local at around 8am and reached Khirai at 10am.The journey was very comfortable Train journey was is aleways comfortable and joyful from my chilhood days till now.I took breakfast and tea also in the train.The outside view was changing rapidly as the train was moving towards my destination.So its not a boring journey at all because those who love nature,travelling to them is never ever boring.Anyways ,the train was in a right time and I got down at 10am to my destination.

The station is just  in the lap of nature.There were greeneries all around.I was feeling so peaceful and refreshed as soon as I got down.There were greeneries all around.I was feeling so peacefuland refreshed as soon as I got down.By asking some village people I took the road just straight from platform no.3 .The road is beautiful covered with red soil.The train line went just beside the lane.But it was just mind blowing walking through this road.as it was Saraswati pujo, sometimes songs from different pandels were coming into my ears.But other than that there were silence all around.

I met some boys who had also come for the first time to visit this valley of flowers.So we walked together for sometime and thus time passed by with having good chat with them.The locals warned us not to walk through the line as the trains passed very fats on the track.

You have to walk 20-25 mins to reach near the flowers.So I walked and walked until I saw the colourful flowers from a distance. There is a small bridge just over the Kansabati River.To the south of Kansabati,you can see the Red and Yellow Marigold and Aster flowers.To the north of the river you can find Chandramallika(white and pink)of huge size and Rose.

After clicking few images of the flowers,I went to the opposite side of the bridge to see Chandramallika.

When I saw those white Chandramallika,it seemed to me as if I am walking in the snow.Whereever my eyes went I saw these beautiful flowers spreading all around me.What a beautiful scene.I could not take off my eyes from them truely speaking.The pictures that I had clicked will remain with me for ever but again I will visit this place whenever I will get a chance.

HOW TO GO-Board Hwh-Midnapore local(8am or 8.48am) or Hwh-Kharagpur local(7.15am)from Howrah.From Khirai you can board the down train to Howrah at 1.15pm or 3..pm.

Trip to Hadalnarayanpur |To me,travelling is not just going to distant places or going to mountains,jungles,beachesbut to visit to nearby places where you can have ample chance to explore.Because to me,travelling is exploring.

Hadal Narayanpur Day Trip | Being a travel savy person,I enjoy just simply going out to places near my hometown,Kolkata only for a day out if I dont get the chance for a long trip.So last year 2019,on a windy chilling December, I just explored an offbeat village in Bankura just just 147kms from Kolkata.The weather was extremely favourable for a day trip so I didnt waste time to go out from my home.The name Hadalnarayanpur comes within two twin villages name Hadal and Narayanpur.Its just between Bardhaman and Bankura.

My husband and daughter accompanied me and with our all time partner our personal car,we set out taking Durgapore Expressway.It was a pleasant journey.the road is excellent and we speeded away towards our destination.Very few people know that this village can be compared with the teracotta temples in Bankura.There  are so many temples with a zamindari house named as Mondol Zamindari house

This Mondol Zamindari house is divided into three parts.Choto Torof,Mejo Torof and Boro Torof.We had our breakfast in a renowned Dhaba and continued our joiurney and reached Hadalnarayanpur at around 12pm.This village not only will attract you for the beautiful temples with prominent teracotta works on the walls but also for the natural beauty.

 Bramini Debi Temple- First after entering the village you can very well visit 350years old Bramini temple which is the temple of Debi Bamoni or Bramini.She is another form of Ma durga who is worshipped here.This idol is made up of black stone and the villagers believe that Rani Moira who was a lady lived in Hadalnarayanpur, dreamt about this idol which she told to the villagers to find out from the bank of River damodar.When the villagers went there they rteally found the idol lying on the muddy banks of the river.They then washed it and fromm then onwards worship[ped in this temple as Debi Bramini.

After entering the temple ,you will find on the top Lord Shiva in a dancing structure taking his wife Sati on his shoulder.

About Choto Torof Mondol Bari-After that,we headed towards Choto Torof Mondol Bari.When you will enter the Choto Torof,you will find the Nat Mandir and Durga dalan on the left hand side.Straight you will the a big ywllow buiding which is the Kali temple.By crossing a small agte you will reach the beautiful Damodar Temple where you can find the prominent teracotta works on the wall.It depicts the Ramayan Mahabharat stories,the various Hindu Gods which is really praise worthy.

There are two twin temples just beside the Damodar Temple.One is Shiv temple and another is Kali temple.And just at the back of these temple ,you will see the Choto Torof Mondol Bari.Every year,Durga Puja is held here and the whole family of the Mondol's gather there to celebrate.Its the 350 year old zamindar house but maintained properly.

About Boro Torof Mondol Bari-Now,we headed towards Boro Torf Mondolbari which is really large. .There is a beautiful Rash Mancha just in front of the gate,the Aatchala,Rathtala and the huge Zamindari Bari.It has been maintained so well that it looks new to us.The ambience is so peaceful,so calm and quiet that you can sit for the whole day inside the premise.The rath was there which at the time of Rath festival the local people take out and decorate it.The Rash Mancha was also decorated with beautiful teracotta work.

We were at the end of our trip.The sun was going to set boidding us bye bye.So thev last spot which was left was Mejo Torof.But tge is no remains of the house left.Only the endemic damodar Temple is there waiting always for the tourists too visit.To me,the work of teracotta is much more prominent in this  Damodar Temple.

 HOW TO GO-If you avail rail,then take any local which go to Bardhaman via cord line.Get down at Mashagram station then board the train goping to Bankura.Get down at Dhaguria station.From there take a toto and reach Hadal Narayanpur.Or,from Howrah,board in Hwh-Chakradharpur and get down at Bankura.From there take a local and get down at Dhaguria.Then toto.

If you go by road take Durgapore Expressway .

Baguran-----An offbeat Beach

Baguran Jalpai Tour/If you love to travel I think you love every popular and unpopular destinations be it a sea beach,be it some high altitude destination or be it wildlife or desert.But those who specifically love to spend a couple of days in a beach then I will suggest a name called Baguran Jalpai.Its completely a virgin and serene beach just 165 kms away from Kolkata.Its aan offbeat destination in Midnqpore.its a no man's beach but you will be invited by thousands of red crabs in the beach.Its an unique beauty which will surely attract you.

The beach of Baguran Jalpai is very clean and you can easily take a bath in the blue waters of the sea.You can also notice many fishing boats far away looking like small dots in the waters.If you want to spend some quality time to find yourself this place will not dissatisfy you.You will only hear the continous roar of the sea and the cool breeze will feel you mesmerised.Its an ideal destination to get youself away from the din and bustle of city life.There is a fishing harbour and Bankiput beach is also not far away.There is also a lighthouse where there is the provision to go to the top.The view is marvellous.You can also able to see the sunset from the top.Apart from sitting for hours in the Baguran Jalpai beach,you can also take a stroll to nearby village,take pictures,talk to the natives and know their habitats.

There is only one hotel here as this place is a booming tourist destination.Hotel Sagar Niralai is a very homely accomodation with good location and excellent food quality.The location of this hotel is very near to the beach.You will find hammocks in the lawn of this hotel.There is a narrow muddy lane which will lead you to the beach.You cant go out in the beach after the dark because there is no lighting arrengement,no shops on the seaside.Its completely dark and you cant walk a bit down the sea side.

HOW TO GO-Board train from Howrah and arrive Kanthi station.From the station take auto to reach the hotel just 30mins from Kanthi.

1)TamraliptoExpress(Dept-6.35am Arrival-9.18am),Hwh-Digha super fast AC Express(Dept-11.10am Arrival-13.41pm),Kandari Express(Dept-14.15pm-Arrival-16.56pm).

If you go by car then you have to reach Kanthi.There are two ways to reach Kanthi.The first route is via Junput.Take the Junput road and drive straight to Sea Dike road.Then turn right.

Another route is via Contai-Soula road.
